Locate a Bowling Trophy

Bowls
The Story

We were tasked with producing a family tree to find the family of a man named Brian having been approached by his Grandson.

Brian had a daughter who gave birth to his Grandson. Brian's daughter had fallen out with family members many years earlier and Brian had died when his Grandson was 6.

Brian's daughter and her son also no longer spoke after they had also fallen out.

The earliest memory of the Grandson was of a memorial crown green bowling tournament held in his Grandfathers honour and seeing the trophy on the table in the clubhouse. The task was to find extended family members and also possibly find anyone who knew anything about this tournament in the hope of (by some miracle) finding the trophy.

Some years earlier the Grandson had attempted to find the trophy, even utilising the local press, but had been unsuccesful. At that time the relationship between our client and his mother had been in good order and he wanted to find it to give to his mother.

The Investigation

We quickly put together a 5 generation family tree and from there were able to work forwards to find the names of many modern day descendants. There proved to be many modern day family members including 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th cousins.

A search of social media websites and electoral roll records led to contact with a number of these modern day descendants.

Due to the historical behaviour of Brian's daughter there was initial concern about talking but after a few emails various descendants were happy and the Grandson was introduced to a number of family members and relationships were established and are maintained to this day with many old photographs surfacing.

The story didnt end their though. Whilst not normally something we would get involved in "find the trophy" became a bit of a quest of ours and we also invoved local press. This press led to a man coming forward who said many years earlier he had seen the initial press about this trophy and it had been him who organised the event back in 1987. He contacted the winner of the event who had said he didnt have the trophy any longer.

However, he added that 5 years later the event winner moved house and in emptying his loft found the trophy and located our clients mother and gave her the trophy. She never informed our client who continued to look for it and only when this man come forward did our client understand his mother was in possession of it and had been given it whilst they were still on good terms but had chosen to say nothing for reasons unknown.

Our client was perplexed as to why his mother never informed him at the time but hopes one day to see the trophy and was delighted that the trophy was rediscovered as a result of his efforts and in its rightful home.
